The micro instances are only available as EBS-based instances - so they work differently than the default type. Further, in recent Ubuntus the is a bug with Mirco-Instances. We are working on removing both problems so that Micro-Instances should be available within a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks as our main focus at the moment is an update to our agent (with better Rails 3 support) and the base Ubuntu.

Any updates on this issue? We'd also like to use micro instances...

The new 12.04 LTS Ubuntu release has the necessary fixes and make it able to run Micros.
I'm not sure your really want to tough, as Micros are very slow have even problems finishing a Chef run.

It's ready when it's ready :-) But we are making good progress on 12.04, so I would say around 2-4 weeks probably.
